In her work as a general psychologist, Gill brings warmth and a welcoming approach no matter what the issue is you are wanting help with. She understands that counselling can be a daunting prospect for many people and is very much aware of this, particularly in a first appointment. Gill is a 'trauma-informed counsellor' which simply means she understands and considers the impact of difficult things that have happened in the past that could still be affecting our well-being long after those events have finished. This is just to do with how the brain handles difficult experiences in life and is not necessarily some permanent fault or failing in ourselves.
Gill sees individuals 12y and over for most stress, anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma conditions. She uses a broad range of counselling techniques/approaches and is happy to discuss with you the type that might suit best. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a well-researched technique that can be very effective for many conditions using fewer sessions than other therapies, and Gill has trained to advanced level in this approach. Therapy options are fully explained so that you know the what, why, and how your counselling might progress toward your goals.
